Enough of the ‘classic’ and ‘iconic’ handbags, let’s talk about modern bags – bags that are fun, playful and no-guilt. And when talking about modernized handbags, it doesn’t get better than the Charlotte Olympia Hatchtag Clutch Bag.

Facebook is not dominating the planet and Instagram is not the most used app, the winner is actually Hatchtags, they are everywhere. The young as well as the old are using it and they’re addicted to it. Hatchtags are now a normal thing like brushing your teeth in the morning, right?

Charlotte Olympia has done it again. This is a gorgeous clutch bag in black with Hatchtag crafted in golden hardware, making it standout from the crowd. This bag is a great conversation starter. But let’s get into the details:

On the top of the Hatchtag, Charlotte Olympia put a little diamond-like crystal there, which is shiny, but not too much. It adds a bit of chicness and femininity to the bag. On the bottom, Charlotte Olympia engraved their signature on it, just beautiful.

The interior features a golden zipped pouch; store all your evening essentials inside. Measuring 0.5’ x 7.5’ x 1.5’ (H x W x D) inches, priced at $1161 USD, €995 euro, $8370 HKD, $1469 AUD, ¥129500 JPY, via Mytheresa.

Charlotte Olympia is Looking to the Wild Wild West for Spring 2015

Categories:Designer Shoes

Charlotte Olympia Spring 2015_2

We all know Charlotte Olympia’s tongue-in-cheek aesthetic; just think back to the eery Hands On Sandal. For Spring 2015, it looks as if the brand is turning its kitschy gaze on Western style.

In the past, designers inspired by the American West generally relegate the region’s rich colors and textures to fall collections. It’s interesting to see Dellal capture this theme in the spring by incorporating belt buckles, calf hair and suede into airy sandals and pumps. This change-up I believe correlates to a small shift for the brand; while Dellal still has some quirky moments in this Spring 2015 collection, like a cowboy on the back of a chunky-heeled sandal, overall, her collection is more rounded. This is likely due to Dellal’s desire to grow her brand by attracting a larger customer base; her other efforts to do the same have included a very laid-back Party Shoe Collection.

Of course, some things never change–you’ll still see some of Dellal’s signatures, like chunky platforms and the Kitty flat. Check out the designs from Net-a-Porter’s Spring 2015 lookbook below, and be sure to look for the collection when it arrives.

Shoe of the Week: Charlotte Olympia’s Not-So-Basic Black Pump

Charlotte Olympia Monroe Unzipped Print-Heel Pump

Shoes: Charlotte Olympia Monroe Unzipped Print-Heel Pump

Why It’s the Shoe of the Week: You may be surprised to find that these are Charlotte Olympia pumps, but they’re indeed a Charlotte Dellal creation. This black pump gets edgy with its zipper detailing and printed heel; if you thought you couldn’t turn to Charlotte Olympia for a basic black pump, you may want to think again.

Karl Lagerfeld to Debut Cat-Themed Choupette Bags

Categories:Other Brands

Karl Lagerfeld Choupette Bags 2

If you’re not a cat lover, these are hard times for you. First Charlotte Olympia sold a pair of cat-embroidered flats to basically everyone in the fashion industry, then Taylor Swift started toting around her cat, Olivia Benson, on her arm. Now, Karl Lagerfeld has decided to emblazon a new line of bags, clothes and accessories with a cartoon version of his beloved cat, Choupette, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

It was only a matter of time. Lagerfeld’s eponymous contemporary line has long taken cues from his own image and aesthetic legend to inform its playful designs, and fashion watchers have loved Choupette since she was a kitten. Technically, the capsule collection will feature the cat’s somewhat more aggressive alter-ego, Monster Choupette, in various states of feline rage.

The pieces will be available in November; check out a few more below.

Kate Spade Mines Asian Imagery for Its Fall 2014 Accessories

Categories:Other Brands

Kate Spade Hello Tokyo Bags

It seems as though, with every passing season, extremely literal accessories become more and more popular among luxury customers. If you’ve got Charlotte Olympia tastes on a contemporary budget (or if you just don’t want to shell out huge bucks for a piece that’s more novelty than wardrobe-staple), you’ll want to check out the Kate Spade Hello Tokyo line, new for Fall 2014, which finds its inspiration exactly where you’d expect.

As always, the lines between aesthetic homage, cultural appropriation and offensive stereotyping are incredibly thin; although the geishas-and-sushi stuff seems more than a little on the nose to me, the totally adorable cat minaudiere, for example, manages to be totally adorable without resorting to the lowest-hanging fruit of Japanese cultural imagery. Check out some pieces from the collection below and let us know what you think in the comments.
