Though we refer to fashion more as an art rather than a science, blurring boundaries between these subjects seems to be doing the fashion world some good. Combining cutting edge technology with glamour, is designer Martine Jarlgaard who will pioneer a mixed reality fashion show at London fashion week this fall. Unlike virtual reality that seems fabricated to many, this concept allows industry aficionados a chance to enjoy the show via holograms while still retaining their base in reality.

Jarlgaard’s transformational idea uses Hololens, Microsoft’s mixed reality headsets that allows viewers to witness the entire spring/summer collection 2017 in the form of life like holograms. Simply put, the viewer will retain natural surroundings while still viewing graphical images right before them. Taking you off the traditional runway fashion, the Hololens allows you to stroll around the semi-virtual collection and explore it from every angle while discovering its various nuances with the closest possible view. In collaboration with the Fashion Innovation Agency at London College of Fashion and 3D capturing company, DoubleMe, Jarlgaard has used the brand’s Holo Portal to turn her work into a volumetric 3D mesh that could become the holograms.

Apart from this captivating reality 3-D experience, guests will also be able to lounge in W Hotel’s Finishing Touches pop-up Hub for complimentary beauty services at the The Braid Bar or Eylur’s Brow and Lash bar. The event will also see Ciate offering ‘Express Marker Manis’ with their latest pen nail polish technology. Jarlgaard’s mixed reality fashion show is a result of her belief in bringing sustainability into fashion by replacing the use of toxic materials with natural substitutes while also incorporating technology to widely enhance the future of fashion. For a futuristic all round approach like this one, it’s not long before miraculous inventions become the fashion industry’s ultimate reality.
